Regarding The May 19th Show @ 4114 Witler

Greetings!

Last night, May 19th, I opened my home for a show with A Better Life, Sir Veillance, Fingers Crossed, Thieves, and Take It and Run. I did this because I have a long standing love for the music "scene" and the people in it and enjoy the community that comes through it. I have been hosting house shows for a while now with various sects of the local music scene and plan to continue doing so for as long as I have a space available to do it. I have been attending concerts since '92 which may be longer than some of you have been alive. Since moving to Cincinnati in '07 I worked for a short time with The Underground then started booking my own shows at Covenant just a few blocks from my house prior to moving in here and doing the house shows. Currently I also work with The 86.

Often, folks "outgrow" the music scene after their college years when the "American Dream" and pressure to get a "real job" but my desire and passion is to do my part to continue building into the music scene wherever I happen to be. Sadly, the DIY aspect of the local music scene is struggling as fewer and fewer folks are willing to allow bands to play in their basements or other spaces. There are many reasons for this such as noise complaints from neighbors, folks getting burnt out on putting effort into something that has very little return, or folks taking advantage of those who provide the space with their disrespect.

Thankfully, I have had no complaints for the noise that results from my house shows and I am nowhere near the point of burning out on doing this. Sadly, last night someone did act in a disrespectful manner by taking my video camera - a JVC Everio HD camcorder with a 80 GB hard drive.

This is the first time something like this has happened so I do not have any desire to call it quits because of this one incident. In fact, I accept some of the blame be leaving the camera unattended. I know better than that...sadly with the lack of integrity and self respect, people cannot be trusted in this day and age. I should not have left a temptation that is easily concealed like that camera sitting out where anyone could grab it and run.

What I have to say about this is if the person who grabbed the camera happens to be reading this: You are forgiven. I will not hold this against you. Material things like this can be replaced but I am bummed about losing around 6 hours of footage that I had not yet transferred to my computer.

I am putting the matter to rest and if you return it even now, I won't say a word about it to you or to others. I absolutely will not involve the police. I simply would greatly appreciate it if the camera was returned. Please redeem yourself of this selfish and stupid act and be a person of integrity. Thank you.

For those who donated toward the purchase of a replacement of my camera...THANK YOU! you are all RAD people and your act of kindness outweighs the act of stupidly by whoever took the camera. To the bands, thank you for a great night up to that point. To those offering to do a benefit show to raise more funds again THANK YOU! My funds have been lacking much of this year so I don't really have much extra to replace an expensive item like this camera. I appreciate your kindness.

Thanks for your time.

House Shows & The 86

I am currently involved with "The 86" which opens its doors this Friday - April 1st. About a year ago the process began to purchase the building that was once known as Top Cats and then we spent months cleaning the place out and renovating it to make it what it is now. I have high hopes for this venue and want everyone possible to know about it. If you are still active in music, I highly recommend booking a show there. Primarily it will be open on Fridays and Saturdays at night for shows but other nights could be possible depending on the need. You can find "the 86" online at http://the86Club.com and on facebook - http://www.facebook.com/The86Club. If you want to book a show there contact Chris Human at booking@the86club.com.

I also moved into a house where I have hosted a few basement shows over the last couple months. I am still willing to do that though I will only do the shows when the club is not open meaning that I will absolutely not be doing shows on Fridays or Saturdays in my basement. Any other night however, I am willing to consider it. Email me at TigerRAWkShows@gmail.com regarding basement shows.

The 86 - Blood, Sweat, & Tears!

http://the86club.com
On Friday, April 1st, 2011, the 86 opened to the public...this was nearly a year in the making and two and a half years in the waiting for what was to come!
When the 86 was coming together and a location was being found, I was leaving Covenant with some question about what it was I would do. God’s timing is great while at times quite stressful. Throughout the process of purchasing the building where the ministry of The 86 takes place, Chris and Monica Human took a leap of faith believing that the money would be there when it was needed and at the last possible moment, it was there! Anytime during the cleaning and renovating that supplies or help was needed the funds, supplies, or people would be there! So many of us involved in this thing don’t have the most financially stable lives or jobs but we believe in the vision of Chris and Monica and in this ministry and put everything we could into it alongside them.
The week leading up to the opening many long days were put in trying to get everything done. We didn’t get everything done but enough was accomplished to open without much of a hitch. Tom Conlon, one of the artists scheduled to perform during the Grand Opening, was at the club helping until 4am in the morning on Friday so that things could be ready to go at 8pm on Friday night. People worked right up until the doors opened to get things done. When all was said and done, it felt right to be back with these people working to provide not just entertainment but a community of hope and love to a population that doesn’t feel they are loved or a sense of hope in this dark world.
The location of The 86 is perfect to be reaching the people we feel led to minister among...the very same people that seem to be drawn to us for some reason or another. The name of the club alludes to the rejection by society (and in some ways the rejection of society) of the rocknroll crowd. Many of us involved in the ministry also have been the rejected. We have found a hope in Jesus Christ the fulfilled us and gave us a purpose in this life and we want to share that hope to everyone that crosses our path.
The 86 will be a welcome place. We believe it will be life changing. There are so many other things in the works for The 86 such as studios, practice spacs, artist and band development, and apartments as well as the various ministries that each of these opportunities will bring. We are committed to this and have great anticipation for what is to come now that we are on the other side of the grand opening!
Financial needs remain unfortunately...if you happen to have anything you could give please visit the ministry website and donate. Your money goes completely into serving the community with this club.
